Local Bird Walks Are Back!

Local bird walks are resuming all over Southern California, most led by the Los Angeles Audubon Society. Visit their bird walks page for a complete listing.

Here's the current schedule for walks on the Westside.

Every first Saturday of the month, 9 a.m. to noon, Open Wetlands at Ballona Salt Marsh. RSVP required to [email protected]. Meet at Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve, 300 block of Culver Blvd. in Playa del Rey. Enter through the gate at the northeast corner of the parking lot behind Alkawater/Gordon’s Market

Every third Saturday of each month 8 a.m. to noon, Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area, 4100 South La Cienega Boulevard, Leader: Ann and Eric Brooks. Meet at the first parking lot on the left after the entry kiosk (sign says "Olympic Forest").  $6 for parking.

Other Interesting Bird Walks

Every third Sunday of each month, 8:30 to 10 a.m., Malibu Lagoon, led by Santa Monica Bay Audubon Society. Visit smbasblog.com for details.

Every Friday 8 to 9:30 a.m., Bruin Birding Club. Walks begin at various locations. Check the Birding Club calendar at https://www.bruinbirdingclub.org/calendar. If not a member of the UCLA community, sign up for email updates.

Second Sundays, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Pasadena Audubon Society offers free monthly bird walks at the Los Angeles County Arboretum for PAS members, led by Katy Mann. The LA Arboretum requires that trips be open only to current PAS members. Membership is simple on the PAS website, and is $25 ($15 for seniors and students). These walks are popular, and space is limited. Sign up early on the Arboretum website

The Pasadena Audubon Society offers field trips, usually weekly, to interesting birding locations in Los Angeles County, such as Eaton Canyon, Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach and the LA River. Check the PAS calendar for more information. Whether or not you're a member, you can drop in to the Birds and Beers happy hour every fourth Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wild Parrot Brewing Company, 2302 E. Colorado Blvd, Pasadena.  The company donates $1 to PAS for every beer sold.
